Mungala Resort – Onslow Iron, Western Australia

Mungala Resort is a landmark $140 million resort-style accommodation complex developed by Mineral Resources in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, designed to set a new benchmark in FIFO living. The 500-room facility includes a private airport, restaurants, tavern, gym, recreation facilities, a medical building and outdoor sports courts. A complete zencontrol DALI-2 lighting control system was deployed across all major communal buildings and outdoor areas, with the installation delivered by our partners at Vision Cabling with integration support from DALI Solutions.

Approximately 1,493 DALI devices are managed across the site by 35 zencontrol application controllers. All luminaires are fully dimmable, with motion sensors and switches used throughout for automated lighting behaviour. zencontrol Cloud plays a critical role at this remote Pilbara site, located more than 1,200 km from Perth, enabling multi-site remote management, fault diagnosis, cloud GridView control and thin-client commissioning without requiring FIFO travel for routine adjustments. Building settings can be copied across multiple facilities in seconds, making large-scale management practical at scale.

MinRes selected zencontrol as its standard lighting control platform across its sites, including its Perth head office, ensuring consistency, scalability and long-term future-proofing. For a resort of this size and remoteness, the ability to monitor, diagnose and update the lighting system from anywhere is not a convenience, it is essential. Mungala Resort demonstrates what a modern, remotely operable DALI-2 infrastructure looks like when deployed across one of Australia’s most significant FIFO projects.
